A warm breeze ran across Fleetfoot's fur; it was the only sort of break from the scorcing heat that she had had the entire week. The WindClan deputy had sought out the smallest bit of shade she could find on the open moor, just underneath the descending slope of one of the larger hills in the area. The warmth had been unbareable for the little tabby, who much prefered the cooler temperatures of New Leaf or Leaf Fall. All she wanted was an escape from the unforgiving sun, and to get out of camp for a little bit. It seemed like everyday there was a new complaint that she had to contend with; 'RiverClanners aren't doing their fair share of hunting, RiverClanners don't listen to us, RiverClanners are always complaining...' Hmm, you WindClanners sound an awful lot like these RiverClanners you keep talking about.
Fleetfoot wasn't too keen on sharing the camp with RiverClan either, but she was sick of hearing the griping of her clanmates. Today, it had been an elder's complaint about a RiverClan queen that had worn out the deputy's patience. Claiming that she had to excuse herself because of the heat (which was partly true,) Fleetfoot had left camp as fast as she could to find a place where she could be alone, maybe to hunt or to run for awhile. More than anything, Fleetfoot wanted to help her clanmates with any of their problems, but when those problems were over-dramatised constantly, she wanted nothing to do with them. At least, not at the moment. Fleetfoot intended to beat the heat and her own frustration by running; maybe by running as fast as she could she could generate some wind to cool her own overheated body.
After thouroughly licking herself from head to toe, she was ready to let the abundant breeze of WindClan work its wonders. Stretching out her hind legs for a final time, the little deputy lurched forward, her small paws pounding upward against the hard-earthed hill before her. A smile grew on her lips as Fleetfoot ran; this was as close to flying as a cat could get. She could feel droplets of perspiration sliding downward between her toes as she ran, leaving wet footprints behind in her wake. There was already a major improvement in her body temperature as she neared the crest of the hill. The land before her now was flat, and wide open. There weren't any signs of trees for miles. Fleetfoot was halfway tempted to leap from the gorge and over into the river beneath it just for a little water, even though doing this would be like suicide. But Fleetfoot couldn't remember the last time she had a full drink of water, only tiny little sips here and there. She could manage; she was young. But what about the elders and kits? she thought, worrying about her clan even when she wanted to get away from them.
Fleetfoot came to a stop in the middle of the moor, realizing how foolish it was to leave camp. They needed her, and it had been selfish to want to take a break. "It can't be about them all the time, you know," she said aloud, reminding herself that she did deserve her free time. Thinking she would do something useful while she was away from the camp, Fleetfoot parted her jaws to try and pick up any prey-scent she could find. She was hoping for something fast, maybe a hare that she could chase down. Instead, what she found was a rather unwelcome smell. "Fox," she hissed, crouching low to the ground. Luckily, the smell was faint and somewhat stale, but it was close. It probably had just been passing through the area, at least that's what she had hoped. Coming up, the deputy hurred over to where the scent was strongest, and found the mangled carcass of a small rabbit. Its body reeked of fox. Looks like I'll need to let Bearstar know to keep an eye out, she thought, glancing around, wondering if any other cats were nearby.
